Name Origin

I recently met a 75 year old man named Dieter Schutty not far away from my home in Germany. Together we find out, that his grandfathers family name, who originally came from Polen, was "Scutty"
It seems that some part of the name "Schutty" came out of some different other names like "Schuttie" or "Scuty". These are results of some research in Germany.

Nationality & Ethnicity

From around 1850 a family named "Schuttie" (later it became the name Schutty) settled down in ther area of the South Bukowina and spread out to the north. At that time the Bukowina was a crownland of the former Austrian- Hungarian Monarchie, an area between Tschernowitz (Chernivci) in the north, Suceava in the West and Vatra Dornei in the south. Nowadays the north of the Bukowina belong to the Ukraine and the south to Romania. See

One third of the imigrants to the Bukowina came in the 18 century from Austria. It is said, that one of my ancient, Ferdinand Schuttie, came from Austria/ Steiermark. He was the earliest ancient, living in the Bukowina, I find out. His son Julius was born in 1875 in Vatra Dorna.
I find out, that the name Schutty is spread out in many (south) east european countries (Polan, Slowakia, Austria, Slowenia)
Around 20 time the name Schutty is represented in Germany.
