Karen Christophersdatter (Frenning) Schøyen
From Romedal local history book: "Here on this farm the women - at least from 1830 onwards, have entered so significantly into the limelight that it is not possible to get past. They have been more than adept and have known joy from standing at the helm. Kristine Olsdatter did not give up the farm as long as she lived. Karen Kristoffersdatter was not less skillfull than her mother in law, and after her death in 1879, she was probably the one who made the decisions. Karen Schøyen did not give away the authority over the farm as long as she lived. Her daughter Oliv got married early 1899 to Paul Øvergaard from Stange; but Karen Schøyen retained the authority over the farm. Oliv Olsdatter Øvergaard was in all her ways and manners an example of good, old Norwegian farming culture. With psychic memory she could tell about life in ages gone by, - at work and celebrations, in grief and joy. She had rich tradition to draw upon, and she kept them up with style and hospitality. Her spiritual vitality she kept to the last. Those who heard her tell stories will never forget the nice, lovable old lady.»
