Shackleston name can be traced back to the family of James Shacklestone b 1782 who lived in Middlewich Cheshire England. Spellings varied including Shacklestone, Shackleston, Sheckleston, Shecklestone amongst others. His son Richard b 1827 relocated 20 miles to Stoke on Trent having met and married his wife Ann. Generally the descendents of Richard and Ann were called Shackleston but there are some variations in the records. Richardand Ann's grandson also Richard emigrated to the US in the 1950s and had two daughters so the name is running out.
The name may have originally been a misspelling of the more common UK Shackleton.
