For some of the Skue's, primarily the East coast and South (TX, NM), the original name was Skui, which was changed to Skue on immigrating to the US from Norway. The Skui family name originates with Skui farm in the municipality of Bærum, appr. 10 miles west of Oslo, Norway. The name seems to appear for the first time in the 1875 census, used by Martin Skui, two of whose sons emigrated to the US: Henry and Sverre (Thomas).

Name Origin

The original, old Norse form of Skui was Skoðin, where the last syllable indicates "open range". The farm Skui may be 1500 years old.
