Early Stoeffhaases

These are the earliest records we have of the Stoeffhaas family.

Otto Stoeffhaas of Illinois was born on February 3, 1887, and died at age 77 years old in August 1964.
William Stoeffhaas of Oak Park, Cook County, Illinois was born on December 29, 1899, and died at age 69 years old in October 1969.
Walter H Stoeffhaas of Northbrook, Cook County, IL was born on December 29, 1901, and died at age 92 years old on November 25, 1994.
Gertrude H Stoeffhaas of Chicago, Cook County, IL was born on May 26, 1904, and died at age 92 years old on January 15, 1997.
Hattie was a lively and caring person. She and some of her sisters Emily and Gertrude made a death-bed promise to their mother to care for their sister Alice, who was rather severely affected by Down's syndrome. They kept this promise, and Alice had a happy, and for those times, long life. Their brother Walter (Wally) was the president of his own plastics factory, Colonial Colonite. The sisters all did work at their house for him, such as sorting, cleaning and polishing pieces. I'm not sure if the sisters actually incorporated the business, but Hattie was president of Riverside Plastics, which consisted of the sisters, with occasional help from nieces, grand-nieces and grand-nephews. We had fun doing it on their enclosed, pine-paneled back porch, and in mid-afternoon they always had a coffee-klatch we kids enjoyed. Hattie was a lot of fun. She took us to downtown Chicago when she visited her doctor, and we frequently went to the soda fountain at Marshall Fields. We had family 4th of July celebrations in the suburb of Barrington, and I remember Hattie in her 60's getting on the back of a motor scooter with my cousin Tom and going for a joy-ride. Late in life she had Alzheimer's disease. Her sister Gertrude sold their house on Cortland St. in Chicago, and they moved to a retirement home with multiple levels of care. Hattie's death certificate said she died of innanition - she just lost interest in eating and slipped away.
Felicia B Stoeffhaas of Chicago, Cook County, IL was born on September 5, 1910, and died at age 77 years old on March 6, 1988.
Edward Stoeffhaas of Delavan, Walworth County, Wisconsin was born on May 2, 1913, and died at age 56 years old in September 1969.
June M Stoeffhaas of Delavan, Walworth County, WI was born on June 18, 1915, and died at age 87 years old on February 7, 2003.
Edward J Stoeffhaas of Madison, Dane County, WI was born on April 21, 1949, and died at age 59 years old on August 5, 2008.
