My father Larry Wilcher Stotts was a person I looked up to and respected highly. He was a great father, sometimes an a** (as he would say) haha but My father was a great man. He was very proud of what he had accomplished in life. He was a proud special forces green beret, airborne, and 33rd degree mason. My father originally came from Germany during the hitler era. He was born in East Prussia and was adopted by a nice american man who helped them out during the war and renamed him to Larry Wilcher Stotts so he could fit in and have a more american name. His original German name was Wolfgang Reindholt Gürtz. My father told me stories about him having to live in basements for months because they were getting bombed every day and how they were starving and had to beg for food. He told me stories about how he was forced into the hitler youth camps and told me about the time he refused to go, they beat him up, and broke his nose. He went through this hard life and ended up losing his father and having to leave his mother to go to his new home, the United States. When he arrived in Gatesville Texas in 1948, he was picked on and spat on for not being able to speak english and they would call him horrible names like "nazi" or "kraut". My father was a smart man though and he learned english by listening to the radio. Here's another awesome fact about him, he spoke 13 different languages FLUENTLY. As soon as he turned 18 he got DRAFTED into the US army which is where his life and career all began. He was a very successful and highly known man in the military with the utmost respect. I used to see people come up to my father and ask to shake his hand. This is very hard for me to write, it has been a few years since my dad has passed but I just wanted to share with everyone a little about my father's history. R.I.P my father, me and mom miss you so much and you will never be forgotten.
