Nationality & Ethnicity

The Szvetitz, Szvetics, Svastics, Svastits families originated from the Croatia/Dalmatia area. My family creast (Svastics) is nearly identical to the Szvetics family crest. The Svastics/Svastits family migrated to the Western counties of Hungary. They settled around cities like Pécs, Veszprém, Györ. The Szvetics/Szvetitz families would more than likely originate from the same areas. The difference in the spelling is probably due to the phonetic spelling depending on if they were still in Croatia, in Hungary or possibly in Austria. In Zagreb, Croatia there is a statue of a King Peter Svastics (or Svastits). The family crest for the family Szvetics has a field with an armoured arm, holding a curved Turkish sword, with the severed head of an Ottoman Turk. Above the crest is the same scene. It has a suit of armour helmet, with a crown atop it, facing slightly to the side. This is the exact same crest as the Bocsarí Svastics family except the main field has a branch with a dove, holding a small crown in it's beak. Both have a 6-pointed star and a crescent moon in the main field. I was told that our family (Svastics) came from Dalmatia, with land and/or castles near Split and Knin Croatia. My family's name has been traced back to Croatia, ca. 1560's.
