He was a Private in the Branch Immaterial - Warrant Officers, USA, and was part of the Selectees (Enlisted Men) component. Archie was discharged from the Army on October 6, 1945. On February 4, 1959 he married Loretta Hall Thoby (1928–2012) in Newburgh, Orange, New York, USA. The couple had two daughters together including Loretta Hall Thoby (1948-1998).
