History

The name Thureen was created when my Great Grandfather John and his brothers Peter and Ole realized that Olsson had become too common in the 1880s United States. They decided to break with Swedish patronymics (but not very far) and use their Grand Father's name Thure (Tuve in his time, the Swedish version of Theodore), but there were too many 'sens and 'sons, so they dropped an "s" and Thureen was their name. Reportedly occurred after seeking any mail for Jens, Per, or Ole Olsson at the post office in about 1888 after immigrating from Sweden. A whole sack of mail for "Olsson"s was searched with no results. Anyone with the name Thureen (and some Thurins as well) are most likely to be related to these three brothers.
