Summary

Due to the seemingly ever-fluctuating Surname of the Tobatto Family, there are several possible names that predate the contemporary Tobatto Surname, including by not limited to Lovato, but may also have been variants of Tubito, Tabata, Tobato, or other. Several events, such as lost paperwork, destroyed documentation, and other, have all contributed to a lineage of names that is very hard to trace clearly, but what is in fact known is that the Family originated in Italy, eventually becoming the Americanized Tobatto family of the current era.

History

The Tobatto Family originally hailed from Lombardia, with roots stemming from both Northern & Central Italy; faulting records show that the Tobatto Family may have been known as the Lovato Family during this time, rather than their more contemporary, recent surname). During the early 1800's, the entire clan had been consolidated within Lombardy itself (Precise Town, Village, or City unknown), and over the next 50 years or so, familial members of both Swiss and Polish ancestry would be integrated into the once exclusively Italian family. During the worsening turmoil within the Kingdom of Italy at the time, the remaining members of the Tobatto Family fled Lombardy in the late 1800's. Several familial relatives of Polish Decent, known as the Gawronski Family, were already living within America at the time, namely the state of Michigan. Although the Gawronskis bore no connection to the Italian foundation of the family, beyond the members of direct Polish descent, the families agreed to centralize in Michigan nonetheless, with very few relatives remaining behind in New York City upon the family's initial arrive at the Golden Door. It is believed to be during this time that the original surname was changed to Tobatto; whether this change was to streamline the name or distance itself from its Italian heritage is unknown, but legal documents of said change do in fact exist. During the 1940's, for reasons unknown, several Tobatto family members returned to Italy, and the Americanized Tobatto Clan that remained continued to grow in Michigan. Around this time, the remaining Gawronski lineage in America had died out, falling into the shadows of the Tobatto clan as a whole. During the 1960's and 1970's, the Tobattos began branching off into smaller groups, specifically in the states of Wisconsin, Florida, North Carolina, and New Jersey. By the late 1970's, those that immigrated back to Italy, yet carried the contemporary Tobatto surname, had died out entirely.

As of the early 2000's, the Tobatto Clan has entered it's 6th and 7th Generation since their arrival in America, and the active family membership today consists of predominantly Italian & Polish ancestry. The original Gawronski lineage that remained in Poland has partially been lost to time and lost through generations of familial marriages, name changes, and other events.
