History

When Immigrating from Sicily, many of my family members started out with already confusing names like, Tricomi, Tricamo, Teresi, Tricomo, Trecheme and more - all had their names confused over time. I don't have more than 2 generations with the same last mane in a row.

Name Origin

The name has evolved over the last few hundreds of years from good old fashioned "white washing." Americans at the time of the great Italian/Sicilian immigrations were uncomfortable with unfamaliar and difficult to pronounce last names. As a result both Italians and Americans were forced into having their name changed or having immigration do it for them. My grandfather's actual name on his birth certificate is, "Baby Boy" Tricano, later Trecheme and ultimately Treckeme. Anna Teresi, upon arrival to NY Had her name changed to Tricomi and once she settled in Portland, Or, she stated on her immigration form that she was known as Anna Treckeme...
