Name Origin
Most probably, Tyshchuk comes from the Ukrainian variant of the old slavic name Tihon - Tyhon. The suffix -uk was often added to the father‘s name or profession and the word would be used as a nickname for the son. (Which is also the case for -ko and -enko)
The other possible explanation is that the name comes from the Ukranian word for 1000 (Tysyacha, Tyshcha) and Tyshchuk could have been used as a nickname for a person in charge of an army with a thousand members.
Spellings & Pronunciations
If you don‘t speak Ukrainian, you are most probably pronouncing it wrong. The name has two sounds that don‘t exist in English - “y” and “shch”, so the only way to know the right pronounciation is to actually hear it.
Тищук is the Ukrainian spelling, Тыщук is the Russian one. If you don’t have any Russian/Ukrainian friends who could read it out loud to you, just type it into the Google translator thing and enjoy the robotic voice pronouncing the name.
