Alrededor del año 1300 los Usinger eran dueños de tierras en el norte de Frankfurt (80 Km). Las tierras fueron luego compradas por el Principe de Orange y se formo el poblado de Usingen. En la localidad permanece el castillo Usinger que ha sido vendido y alli funciona el gimnasio municipal. Desde 1866 funciona ininterrumpidamente el Usinger anzeiger, diario local con edicion en internet. El significado del nombre Usinger es jefe de juglar, un militar que acompañaba a los ejercitos y que antes de las batallas narraba a los guerreros con canciones alegoricas la valentia  de los luchadores para de esa forma estimular el espiritu de combate. El escudo de los Usinger muestra un hacha como arma de guerra.
