Some of it he told to his granddaughter, my mother. I'll simply relay what he told her that she is able to recall.
1 - The family actually came from the Netherlands. A possible spelling variation was van der Wiedenmeier. They eventually came into Germany/Poland and had the name of von Wedemeyer.
2 - There were lands and a castle owned by the family, but it somehow was sold or changed hands.
3 - Sometime in the 1500-1600's, there was both a pirate and a poet with the family name. I have no first names and have yet to find anything about these two individuals. Given the sheer number of spelling variations, I'm not sure I'll ever find them, but I'm still looking.
4 - He mentioned to my mother more than once that anyone coming from Germany with the spelling of Wedemeyer was a relation, somehow.
