Earliest records point to Friedrich Wiedebusch, born 1680 in Germany. His son, Christoff, was born in Stadtoldendorf, Lower Saxony, in 1721. Succeeding generations are born in the same general area. They are Johann Friedrich, born in 1759; Christoff Ludwig, born in 1787; and Heinrich Friedrich Ludwig, born in 1817. Christoph Ludwig emigrated to Ohio County, West Virginia. His son, Heinrich (mentioned previously) emigrated in 1853 with his wife, Louisa Gieseler, and three children. They settled in Brooke County, West Virginia, where he worked as a shoemaker and had a large family. I am descended from Adolph, his son, born 1846, who married Mary Bryans, born 1850 in Canada.

There is another line of Wiedebusches who immigrated to Michigan and parts west. They come from Colmar, Alsace, France, which has changed hands numerous times with Germany. They share the same names as those in my family line, and they are also skilled craftsmen. But where is the connection?
