History

The Zingery Family in the United States are descendants of Abraham Gottlieb Zingre/Zingery who immigrated to this country, particularly Ohio, in about 1860 (which is the year of his naturalization Declaration of Intention).  I have found only a couple of Zingerys in the USA that have not ultimately been tied to our tree.  Gottleib was born abt 1824-27 in Canton Bern, Switzerland.  Gottlieb's name has been listed as Zinger, Zingre, and Zingery.  The descendants have all used 'Zingery' to the best of my knowledge.

Name Origin

I do not have the facts and sources in front of me at this moment, but Zingre/Zinger/Zingri/Zingery was affiliated with the record keeping of the local castle.  One Zingery wrote a book on the notary profession of the time.

A. Gottleib Zingery was born in Launen, Canton Bern, Switzerland.  Swiss researchers have traced the name in this area back to the 1300s in various spellings, one of which is Cingrulli.  At least one branch of the Zingery family is Swiss.
