I do not recall if I met him. It's possible but I was 6 years old and I believe he lived in eagle harbor by then. He was an avid fisherman. While fishing for the last time tragedy struck, Alfred drowned.
He may have given up a child for adoption. Lane Larkin. He was living in California around 2017 or so.

My Grandfathers mother. I met her once when I was about 6 years old. I remember her being beautiful, gentle and warm. I have no idea why my mom drove us all that way. I can tell you this, it was the most beautiful drive. Seeing lake Superior for the 1st time was incredible. There's nothing like the freshwater lakes of Michigan.

I have much more information but I have to get it out of storage.
My great grandfather was born in Cornwall UK. He was a miner that had learned a new process of mining. He was recruited to work in a copper mine in the US.
He spent time on a farm working before he left for the US. A woman he worked with was a Cadwell.
I have a hunch that he was purposely earning his sea fare to the states.
Interestingly the keweenaw peninsula of upper Michigan resembles the coastline of Cornwall by the mines and the weather is about the same except Calumet Michigan receives multiple feet of snow in the winter.
I visited Calumet in 2018. It seems the Guy's are all gone but the Caldwell's remain.
