Irma Harden was born to William David Harden and Sarah Jane Newsom Harden, the first of 6 children. In 1914, she married Louis Deterding, a marriage that ended in divorce. They had 2 children, Floyd Milton and Martha Ann. Irma had two subsequent marriages to Dorsey Miles and John Hoover. There were no more children.

Sarah Jane "Sadie" Newsom was born to Triphena Molissa Bates and Simon Milton Newson, one of 13 siblings. She married William David "Dave" Harden in 1894. They were married 50 years and had 6 children. Sadie was a homemaker throughout her marriage and a devote Southern Baptist. Her family moved several times, always in Carrollton, MO. A prized possession was a lovely pump organ that always graced her living room.

Dave Harden was born in 1865 to William H. Harden and Susan Hardwick. His father died soon after, and Susan remarried. In 1879 Dave officially requested a neighbor, Westley Rodgers, to be named his guardian, probably because of conflicts with his stepfather. He married Sarah Jane Newsom in 1894, and they had 6 children. Dave worked at a variety of jobs and eventually had a shoe repair shop off the town square in Carrollton. Dave was also a fiddler and fiddle maker.

Floyd Deterding was the son of Irma May Harden and Louis Deterding, and he grew up in and around Carrollton, MO. As a young man, Floyd joined the Air Force and spent 25 years in uniform. In 1943 he married Bernice Marshall, and they had 5 children. Bernice and Floyd made a habit of buying a "fixer-upper" with each change of duty station and improving it to sell. After retiring from the Air Force, Floyd became an asst. professor of industrial arts at Florida State University. He died in Florida at the age of 96.

Milton Harmon Harden (always called Harmon) was born in Carrollton, MO. He was the son of William David Harden and Sarah Jane Newsom, and the grandson of Simon Milton Newsom. Harmon was a tool and die maker and an electrician. In 1929, he married Jessie Owen and they had one daughter, Martha Ann, in 1932.
