Mary Walas of Belchertown, Hampshire County, MA was born on October 15, 1878, and died at age 91 years old in May 1970.
Mary Walas was my maternal great grandmother. I don’t have too many memories of her except for those during her twilight years, as I was only 10 years old when she passed away. I remember her as being a deeply faithful and devoutly Catholic woman. I have vague memories of her bedroom on the first floor and that she spent all of her waking time in her big comfy chair by a window in her bedroom until she was transferred into her bed just feet away. She required a lot of attention and assistance for daily living, and various immediate family members shared those tasks. I always felt Mary was very much loved and appreciated by her family and friends. She lived an especially long and fruitful life for that time period.
