I am the daughter of Lydia Benita Gonzalez. Changed her name to Lydia B. Fregoso according to my birth certificate she is the Informant and relationship Mother. My Grandfather was Guadalupe Marcelino Gonzalez (Military) My Grandmother Florence Muneca Rodrieguez. My great grandparents Lidia Saldivar and John Rodreiguez. All my children are Fregoso. I was never legally married. When I named them I did not know Common Law was not recognized in California and gave them a last name that is not there true name. Only by amending their name, correcting my mistake, acknowledgement of their true identity will they preserve our family unity and history as my mother sacrificed her life to protect. Lydia Benita Gonzalez by way of birth certificate of Maria Isabel Fregoso establishes her common law marriage to Salvador Fregoso, and the residence of Approximate Year: 1974
This was the time when Lydia B. Fregoso who is the same person as Lydia Benita Gonzalez grand daughter of Lydia S. Rodriguez land, known as "Little Mexico" in Iowa, was taken without just compensation.
Description of the Unfair Act
The land was taken under circumstances that my family believes violated both Lydia's grandmother's rights and fair property acquisition practices. At the time: No adequate compensation was provided for the land, which was not only a personal loss but also the dismantling of a community deeply rooted in the area.
Lydia's family and the community were systematically erased from the narrative, with records, such as census data, failing to accurately represent the Rodriguez, Gonzalez and Fregoso families.
Local media, specifically the Gazette, distorted the story, framing it in a way that marginalized our voices and did not reflect the truth of the displacement.
This act left Lydia's ansestors and decendants without recourse and contributed to a legacy of loss and erasure that continues to affect her children, Salvador Ray Fregoso db 03/06/1967-dd 01/01/2022; Maria Isabel Fregoso db 07/28/1970; Mario Allen Fregoso db 06/30/1971; Jose Angel Fregoso db06/17/1974 and Juan Guadalupe db 11/13/1975
Why It Was Unfair
This was a violation of basic property rights and equity principles. Lydia Benita Gonzalez, Florence Rodriguez, and Lydia Saldavar who is the same person as John and Lydia S. Rodriguez and her community were:
Denied proper compensation for their land.
Displaced without consideration for their contributions to the local culture and economy.
Erased from historical and public records, including census data, further marginalizing their legacy.

Maria Isabel Fregoso changed her name to Maria Bahena in 2002. She believed she had entered into a valid marriage. In 2018 Maria went through a deposition regarding workers compensation case. It was during that deposition she realized her marriage was invalid because the person could not enter into a contract in the United States. The relationship severed since 2001. Due to the legal issues and repeating incarceration. Maria has not been able to focus on correcting and also afraid that correcting the name change would make it difficult for her children who faced forced adoption harder to find her. In 2018 when she realized her name was invalid and not recognized by government officials. She immediately took measures to revert to her birth name Maria Isabel Fregoso. She realizes howbimportant it is that a court order and publication identifying her as Maria Isabel Fregoso ( Maria I. Fregoso) is the same person as Maria Bahena. Maria Bahena seeks the marriage be nullified and to only be identified as Maria Isabel Fregoso. Also that the name change was not intended to defraud or cause confusion or in anyway meant in any way to be an act that would considered a crime. The marriage was based on a need to have someone to protect her from an unknown person threatening her safety.

Salvador Ray Fregoso is my brother who passed away in 2022. He was in Iowa caring for my mother.
Salvador Reyes Fregoso is my son born 2001. He faced forced adoption in 2002 along with his brother Luis Angel Fregoso born 2000. This tragic event along with the foster placement of all my other 5 children, and my incarceration transpired by others to gain control over real property belonging to my family. This was done on July 29, 2002 when certain individuals misled the authorities making them believe an imposter was my mother Lydia B. Fregoso. I was arrested under the name M. Isabel Bahena
