Rodica Pruna had a brother, Mircea Pruna. Born in Romania, she immigrated to the United States and settled in Chicago, Illinois.
Rodica married Adrian Gabriel Valeanu, becoming Rodica (Pruna) Valeanu, and they had a child Roxana Gabriela “Tănuci” Valeanu (1978 - 2003.)

She had siblings Teodosia (Cretu) Sava and Jean Cretu. She married Marin "Tatana" Valeanu, and had children Daniel "Danel" Valeanu, Victor 'Viti' Valeanu, Adrian Valeanu, Adrian Gabriel "Gabi" Valeanu, and Mihail Iulian "Mihaita" Valeanu. Maria Valeanu died at age 86 years old on June 1, 2005 in Chicago, Cook County, Illinois United States, and was buried at Rosehill Cemetery.
