A Day By The [White] River #1
A Day By The [White] River #1
The picture was captioned on the back, "A Day By The River." I presume it was the White River. The two boys sitting in the front row are unknown. The elderly man behind the boys is George Fields. The man beside the boys is Asa Neal. Next to him is Madeline Neal. In the last row are Clyde Neal, Rose (Carr) Neal, Roy Neal, Beulah White who became Mrs. Roy Neal, Marie? Fields, Gladys Fields, and Ellen? Fields, whom I presume are George Fields's daughters.

I would appreciate your letting me know if you can better identify the Fields family members in this picture and provide their birthdates. Thank you.

Wade, Jesse, Homer, & Asa
Wade, Jesse, Homer, & Asa
Since Asa Neal and Jesse Wm Mann are in this picture with Homer Sheeks, I think it was taken in Indiana, not in Arkansas. Homer is horsing around, wearing a bib. Amused, his grandson James Wade Sheeks, better known as Wade, is sitting on the left. Wade was born 7 July, 1915 in Stuttgart, Arkansas, died 7 Sep 1950 near Little Rock, Lincoln County, Arkansas, and is buried in the Sheeks Cemetery, Mitchell, IN with his father, Harry A. Sheeks. Wade was an epileptic and never married. He had an older brother, Wayne (8 Jan 1914-25 Oct 1960). When Wade's mother, Stella Ziegler, died, Harry left his two sons with his mother, Mrs. Homer (Kate Stephens) Sheeks, who had divorced his father, and was running a boarding house in Mitchell. Then Harry went to Arkansas where his father lived, and married Bessie Little, and they had six daughters: Mary; Selma; Anna Jean; Mildred; Hazel; and Helen.

Asa Neal (23 Sep 1877-10 April 1937)
Asa Neal (23 Sep 1877-10 April 1937)
Asa Neal was born in Lawrence County, Indiana, the son of Alexander, born 30 Aug 1844, & Sarah Ellen (Mann or Manning) Neal. He married Rose (Carr) 2 Sep 1900 in the same county. His obituary named his survivors as his wife; one son Roy; one daughter Mrs. Kenneth Tanksley; one step-son, Edwin Carr of South Bend; one sister, Mrs. Leva Walker of Greenville, Ohio; one brother Jesse Neal of Piggott, Arkansas, and seven grandchildren. Two sons, Albert and Clyde, preceded him in death. "Mr. Neal was highly respected in his home community. He was formerly
employed at the Lehigh plant in Mitchell, but had followed farming for the past few years." He was a member of the Wesley Chapel and is buried at the Sheeks cemetery.
