Doris Stevens - Woman's Party jailed
Doris Stevens wrote "Jailed for Freedom" and was the youngest member of the national executive committee of the National Woman's Party, an organization that worked for women's suffrage.

She picketed, along with others, at the White House in 1917 and was arrested and sentenced to 60 days in the Occoquan Workhouse (VA). This photo was taken at that time.

Perhaps as women we should start the Women's Party all over again. They were a powerful force back in the day, and they cared about women's issues, the right to vote, contraception, children's needs, and the list goes on. With the attack on women perhaps we need to summon the strength of these women and take back our rights.
I knoe Deirdre - Current women think that the "women's movement" started in the 1970's but it's much older and has been needed for a long time (centuries). These were smart, courageous, talented, and educated women who fought for the rights of the family, not just women. Where are women like that today?
