    Elwood Arnold Conklin was the son of Cyril and Laura Conklin. According to the 1950s census, Elwood then age 12, was living with his father Cyril Conklin (age 37), mother Laura Conklin (age 47), grandparents Adeline Conklin (69) and Daisy Schlif (67), and his brother Richard (age 22) in Plainfield New Jersey. Elwood's sister tragically passed away at the age of four on Jan. 27th 1940 of 'illuminating gas poisoning' which also caused Elwood and his mother to stay in the Muhlenberg Hospital. See Roberta Conklin Services Held Elwood worked at General Motors when he married Peggy Ann Sloan Darbie in July 1970 in North Plainfield New Jersey. She was working in the editorial department of The Courier-News in Bridgewater New Jersey at the time, and they had a lovely announcement in the newspapers on Saturday July 18th 1970.     The following appeared in The courier-News Bridgewater, New Jersey newspaper on Wednesday February 12th 1975: Elwood A. Conklin Bridgewater - Elwood A. Conklin, 37, died early today (Feb. 12, 1975) at his home, 1048 Hoffman Road. He was the husband of Mrs. Peggy Ann Conklin, family editor of The Courier-News. Mr. Conklin was a native of Plainfield and a graduate of North Plainfield High School. He served on active duty in the Navy for four years and was associated for about six years with the Naval Reserve company in Stirling. He was a member of the Trinity Reformed Church, North Plainfield. He had completed last year a course at Somerset County Vocational-Technical School in refrigeration, air-conditioning and heating. Besides his widow, Mr. Conklin leaves his father, Cyril Conklin of Linden. The Higgins Home for Funerals, Plainfield, is in charge of arrangements.

The following appeared in The Courier-News in Bridgewater New Jersey on Thursday February 1st 1940:

Funeral services for Roberta Louise Conklin, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Cyril Conklin, 119 Libery St., were held in Memorial Funeral Home Tuesday. The Rev. Earl E. Hair, minister of the Watehung Avenue Presbyterian Church, North Plainfield, officiated. Buriial was in the Presbyterian Cemetery, North Plainfield.

Roberta, who was in her fourth year, died Saturday (Jan. 27, 1940) of illuminating gas poisoning. Her mother, who was overcome in the same accident, is in Muhlenberg Hospital, where today it was said her condition is "improved." Police said the mishap was accidental.

Also in Muhlenberg Hospital is the Conklin's only other child, Elwood Arnold Conklin, 2, who was taken to the hospital Friday night suffering a heavy cold. His condition today was said to be "good".

Peggy Darbie Bride of Elwood A. Conklin
The following appeared in The Courier-News (Bridgewater, New Jersey) on Saturday July 18th 1970:

PISCATAWAY - Mrs. Peggy Ann Sloan Darbie of 137 Tanglewood North, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Kermit V. Sloan of Alexandria, Va., was married today to Elwood Arnold Conklin of 701 W. Front St., Plainfield, son of Mr. and Mrs. Cyril Conklin of Linden.

They exchanged vows in Broek Chapel of Trinity Reformed Church, North Plainfield, with the Rev. William G. Geiger officiating. The reception was at Herm's Restaurant, South Plainfield.

Mrs. C. M. Garhart of South Plainfield was the matron of honor and Robert O'Neill of Plainfield was best man. After a honeymoon at Mystic Isle, the couple will live at the Tanglewood address. The bride attended Mary Washington College of the University of Virginia and Rutgers University. She is employed in the editorial department of The Courier-News. The bridegroom is a graduate of North Plainfield High School and is with General Motors.
