Four letters written by James C. Barton during the Civil War have been published in a book titled "Bushwhackers and Broken Hearts" [Published by Infinity in 2011]. He served in local militias in Missouri, on the Union side, including the First Regiment, Provisional Enrolled Missouri Militia.
