Obituary

Joan and her mother Gertrude Polllett boarded the Lusitania as 2nd class passengers. When Lusitania was torpedoed and was sinking, Gertrude jumped in the water holding Joan in her arms. Gertrude placed Joan on a piece of wreckage. Joan soon suffered from exposure from the cold Atlantic and slowly began fading. Gertrude stated "my baby is dying" kissed her goodbye and buried her in the ocean.
