    Joan and her mother Gertrude Polllett boarded the Lusitania as 2nd class passengers. When Lusitania was torpedoed and was sinking, Gertrude jumped in the water holding Joan in her arms. Gertrude placed Joan on a piece of wreckage. Joan soon suffered from exposure from the cold Atlantic and slowly began fading. Gertrude stated "my baby is dying" kissed her goodbye and buried her in the ocean.

Joan boarded Lusitania as 2nd class with her mother Gertrude on May 1, 1915. The ship was struck by a Torpedo from a German submarine and sank in 18 minutes at 2:10 pm due to a second explosion in one of the boiler rooms. Gertrude jumped in the ocean carrying her little girl and managed to put her on a piece of wreckage. Joan was slowly suffering from exposure and began fading. When rescue boats came, Gertrude stated "my baby is dying". She kissed her goodbye and threw her in the sea.

So sad to see your mother bury you like that,because you were close to dying. Why couldn't she bury you in a normal cemetery instead of in the ocean? :'(
