Maybe she was your teacher? Bernice Leone (Wells) Rogers, 1901-1973, almost exactly 100 years ago in college. She was born in West Virginia from a long line of West Virginians. After graduating from college, she married another public school teacher and they had one daughter. A few years before she died, she retired and moved to Florida. How many children did she encounter and influence?

Apparently, she didn't get to enjoy Florida for long before she passed from this life. Too bad! After probably 40+ years teaching public school, she DESERVED more!😁

Bernice's parents were Ross Wells, 1872-1948, and Cora Bell Hill, 1878-1956. She had siblings Iris, Marian, and Jay (Ross Jr). In The 1920 federal census, Bernice was 18 yrs old and listed as living with her parents and siblings in Washington, West Virginia. Both parents were born in West Virginia. Father Ross was a lawyer and no one else in the household worked. They owned their own home. Bernice married Albert Luke Rogers in 1924 in Upshur West Virginia and they had daughter Yvonne. In the 1930 federal census, Bernice (census: (sic) Berenice L Rogers), was married and a homemaker. The family was living in Hedgesville WV and Bernice was working as a public school teacher. Albert and Bernice were renting their home and Albert was also working as a public school teacher. Also in the household were daughter Yvonne, age 3, and Lucy O Browning, "servant".
