My grandfather, Oscar Jesse Lee Wells, did not like having such a long name, so he shortened to O.L. Wells. When they moved to Oklahoma, he spent all day handpainting his name on the mailbox. He was very meticulous and everything had to be done just right. After he was finished, he stood back and admired his handiwork. There on the silver mailbox were bright white letters: O L WELLS The next day when he went to get his mail, the school children had made a slight adjustment to his name. His mailbox now read: OIL WELLS.

Looking for information on Wells family from Texan and Missouri. My dad Sam was born in Houston. His dad Sam was born in Hagensport, TX. His dad (S.M. in 1900 Census) was from Missouri and I don't have any data on him other than the 1900 U S Census.
