Dr. Thora M. Plitt - Fur Coats
In 1938, so many women wore fur coats and accessories that there was a diminishing supply of wild life pelts. Enter Dr. Thora M. Plitt of the Dept. of Agriculture. She inspected farm raised pelts for quality (fiber structure and shape, pigment distribution, density, and relative distribution of underfur and guard hairs). No wonder fur went out of fashion! (Although it's making a revival. I have my grandmother's coat from the same year and of the same fur that she's inspecting.)
