Folies Bergere Costume

A postcard from around 1900 featuring a costume from the Folies Bergere in Paris. I can't figure out what the box sticking out from her bust is? Part of her act? I'm sure that this was a scandalous costume at the time!

Daniel Pinna Me too. I think the box in front of her chest must have been a music box like Filipe suggested, or a box for tips.

Filipe Medeiros It looks like the box might be a music box. Hard to make out at this detail, but there might be a crank on the left side? Maybe a jack-in-the-box, too.

Filipe Medeiros And I think it's also Folies-Bergere, with just one "L".

Kathy Pinna You're right, I was wrong - I corrected the spelling. What do you think she was doing with a jack in a box around her bust? And what jumped out???

Alice Thomas I would guess that she put her money in the box and it does look like a wind up music box.
