John Wesley Vallance Family
John Wesley Vallance was born 4 Febuary 1888 in Denton, Denton Co., Texas to the late Henry Green Vallance and Elizabeth Gollihu. He died 15 March 1973 in Memphis, Hall Co., Texas. He married Emma Elizabeth McLear born 23 March 1891 and died 22 Febuary 1981 in Memphis, Hall Co., Texas. They were the parents of one son Herman Adrain Vallance born 23 Mar 1913 in Memphis, Hall Co., Texas and died 8 August 1980 in Fort Worth, Tarrant Co., Texas. Herman is shown in this picture. John owned and operated a grocery store in Plaska, Texas for a few years. He sold this store and opened the Vallance Food Store in Memphis, Hall Co., Texas in the late 1930's. He eventually built a second Vallance Food store in Memphis about a city block apart. He operated the two stores for several years finally closing the older store. In addition he owned and operated three other Vallance Food Stores. One in Hedley, Texas, managed by the late Charles "Dutch" Vallance and wife Edith Adcosk Vallance. Dutch was a half brother to John. Another store in Wellington, Texas and another in Clarendon, Texas managed by his nephew Richard G. Vallance. He eventually closed all the stores with the exception of the Memphis store. His son Herman operated the store for several years after John retired and was eventually closed as well. John, Emma and Herman are buried in the Fairview Cemetery, Memphis, Hall Co., Texas.
