Lizzie Fudge Mitchell Baker
Lizzie Fudge Mitchell Baker, Joseph Robert Baker’s mother, at home in Richwood, WV. Born in Tazewell County, Virginia, her parents were Charter Mitchell, a minister, and Martha Cameron. She married Francis "Frank" Baker (born about 1868) of Tazewell County, VA. The family moved to West Virginia in 1898, traveling by road wagon, pulled by a team of horses. My father, Joseph Robert Baker, was six years old at that time and remembered losing a toy metal horse in the mud when they encountered a downpour during the trip.
Children of Lizzie and Frank included Carl Baker, Joseph Robert Baker (my father - Dreama Gail Baker), Al Ed Baker, Garnett O’Dell (living, Richwood, WV). Other children Mildred and James died of diphtheria in the early 1900s and are buried in the Baker Family Graveyard on Butler’s Mountain above Frankfort in Greenbrier County.
