Queen Elizabeth II & Mamie Eisenhower - White House
Queen Elizabeth II being greeted at the White House by Mamie Eisenhower.

This was sheer genius on Mamie's part, To Greet H.M. as she ascended the steps thereby giving the appearance of bowing without actually bowing. She was not coached. I love the look on Ike's face, just beaming with pride.

Sadly, Queen Elizabeth II of Great Britain died today at the age of 96. She was Great Britain's longest reigning monarch having served for 70 years and 7 months.

Many of us living today might only remember Queen Elizabeth as the monarch of the United Kingdom, but perhaps some recall her father, King George VI who died in 1952. This picture is of Queen Elizabeth in 1957 early in her reign. She is being greeted at the White House by Mamie Eisenhower, wife of then President Eisenhower. Although Americans typically don't bow to monarchy, notice that Mamie appears to bow - reaching down to shake hands with the Queen.

Everybody deserves to be remembered because we all impact the world around us. Queen Elizabeth II impacted millions of people around the world, and we'll always remember her.

I want to build a place where my son can meet his great-grandparents. My grandmother Marian Joyce (Benning) Kroetch always wanted to meet her great-grandchildren, but she died just a handful of years before my son's birth. So while she didn't have the opportunity to meet him, at least he will be able to know her. For more information about what we're building see About AncientFaces. My father's side is full blood Sicilian and my mother's side is a combination of Welsh, Scottish, German and a few other European cultures. One of my more colorful (ahem black sheep) family members came over on the Mayflower. He was among the first to be hanged in the New World for a criminal offense he made while onboard the ship.
