The Bowery New York City
The Bowery in New York City in 1914. In the upper left, you can see the 3rd Avenue El. The Century Magazine wrote about the Bowery in 1919: "It is filled with employment agencies, cheap clothing and knickknack stores, cheap moving-picture shows, cheap lodging-houses, cheap eating-houses, cheap saloons" It wasn't one of the nicest parts of Manhattan.
Today, the Bowery looks very different - lighter, brighter, and with new buildings.
