George Sheeks of Rowan County, North Carolina and Kentucky built this house, then moved his family there in 1816. The house was moved from its original location not too far away to the park for display. This view shows the two stories of the house. Beside the door is a plaque saying "Sheeks House, Erected 1816." A sign "Weaver" is above the door indicating that at certain times a weaver comes to the house and displays the technique used for weaving cloth, rugs, bed coverlets, etc. on the original weaving loom George built for his wife. I am grateful to my son, Dr. Bruce E. Carl, for taking these pictures Labor Day weekend in 2005.
