Postcard of the Hughes Hotel, corner of Tulare St., Fresno. Back of card says "A Continental Operated Hotel..a well appointed air-cooled hotel combining comfort, convenience, economy.."
Hotel was built by Thomas E. Hughes in 1887 and was originally victorian-styled so this postcard must have been how the hotel looked circa 1930-1940. Upon completion it was the largest hotel between San Francisco and Los Angeles. The Huges was the first building in Fresno to have electric lights and an elevator. There was also a telephone in each room, along with a neon sign in front. It was destroyed by a fire in 1953. ... show more
