Harland and Wolff Heavy Industries, founded in 1861 by Edward James Harland and Gustav Wilhelm Wolff, is located in Belfast, Northern Ireland and is still operational. (In 1912, the company also acquired a shipyard in Glasgow, Scotland)
The business has built such famous ships as the sister ships the Olympic, the Titanic and the Britannic; the Royal Navy's HMS Belfast; Royal Mail's Andes; Shaw Savill's Southern Cross; and P&O's Canberra.
Because there is no longer the great demand for large ships, the focus of Harland and Wolff - still in business today - is on design and structural engineering as well as ship repair. ... show more
