Uncle Byron Van Tassel
Byron Van Tassel was born Feb 1, 1844 to Sylvester & Sally Van Tassel of Theresa, NY. His eyes were grey. He enlisted in Captain Vandenburg's 5th Black River Batallion, Co D on Aug 5, 1862, along with his brother George. They were sent to Washington, DC. He contracted typhoid fever and died in Emory Gen Hospital Nov 6, 1862 at the age of 18. His mother lived on a pension from his military service until shortly before her death.
