Wilbur and Alice
Wilbur Mason Marrs, son of James Mulkey Marrs, was born 16 Jun 1920. He died 26 Dec 2000 in Boca Raton, Palm Beach Co., Florida. He married Alice Faye Carey on 4 May 1946.

During WWII, according to the National Archives, Wilbur was captured in the Philipine Islands on 6 may 1942. He was one of the U. S. Marines liberated on 5 Sep 1945 from Osaka. There were two other Marrs men, from the U.S Army, held in Osaka. Their connection to the family has not yet been established. They are Billy J. Marrs and L. D. Marrs.

See for details of that portion of WWII encounter. Note that Wilbur Marrs' memoirs are listed as a source for the articles. Marines records which were brought out from Corregidor by submarine or retrieved from the prison camps after the war are found in the geographical and subject files in the Archives Section, Marine Corps Historical Center.

The old 4th Marines was cited in War Department orders in the name of the President of the United States, and its members are entitled to wear the Army Distinguished Unit Badge, for service in the Philippine Islands operations, 8 December 1941 to 6 May 1942.
