Queen for a Day - Jack Bailey
Jack Bailey was the host of the 1940's and 1950's show Queen for a Day, first on radio and then on television, for 20 years. It was the number one show of its day and the phrase "Queen for a Day" has become part of our daily language.
In the show, women would tell their sad stories (with many tears) and the audience would vote on which story was the saddest. The winner receive a prize - something such as a clothes washer. To me, it was the precursor of many of the shows today.
