{🞺} CAMS motorsport
The late Mr RONALD DEARIE (1984) Mr Ronald Leighton Dearie has contributed to motor sport for a far longer period than is usual. He has been the quiet achiever, the selfless and productive worker behind the scenes at club, State and national level for a quarter of a century. From Committee Membership of the Light Car Club of Australia in 1960, he moved to Presidency of that Club (1966-68), Vice-Chairman of the Victorian State Council of CAMS in 1970, and became alternate NCC delegate for Victoria in 1973. The next year he became Chairman of CAMS’ Motor Racing Committee, and a Trustee of CAMS. In 1975 he was Chairman of the Finance Committee and 1976 was National President of CAMS. Since 1977 he has been Chairman of the National Motor Race Promoters’ Association, a position for which his experience in the inauguration of Sandown fits him admirably. To all this practical experience, Ronald Dearie has brought his own unique qualities of sincerity, approachability and, above all, personal standards of courtesy and behaviour which give him a special place in the annals of the Confederation.
{🞺} Linacre, Victoria, Australia
Ronald Dearie (1920-2007) The Confederation of Australian Motor Sport was greatly saddened to learn of the passing of former CAMS President, Ronald Leighton Dearie at the age of 86 years. Ron passed away peacefully at the Linacre Private Hospital after a long illness. He was a quiet, loyal and dedicated contributor to Australian motorsport in a myriad of roles, including service as President of the Light Car Club of Australia from 1966 to 1968, the Victorian delegate to the National Council, Chairman of the Motor Racing Committee and a Trustee of CAMS. Ron was one of the stalwarts in the period when CAMS was growing rapidly, and crowned his service by accepting appointment as President of CAMS in 1976. In 1984, he was also awarded the CAMS Award of Merit, the highest recognition that can be conferred by CAMS upon any person for services to motor sport in Australia. Ron Dearie will be remembered with affection as a dedicated, honourable and selfless contributor who shouldered every task which was asked of him, and who delivered one hundred percent with good spirit. He was one of the band who built the CAMS we enjoy today, and the world is the poorer for his passing. CAMS extends its deepest sympathies to his family and friends.
