Unknown Mathis Lady
Unknown Mathis Lady
Picture of Mathis sisters taken at the time of the funeral of Tryphene Mathis in Sterling City, TX

This picture is of the three daughters of John M. Mathis and Tryphene E. (Gregory) Mathis at the time of Tryphene's funeral. John M. had died six years earlier in 1926. The lady on the right is tentativily identified on the back of the original photo as 'Great-grandma Mathis'. The photo seems to have been from the holdings of Lloyd Johnson, son of Tryphene's daughter, Auda. (Mathis)Johnson. Therefore, Tryphene would be Lloyd's grandmother, and the lady in question would be the grandmother of the three ladies with her in the photo, and thus the mother of either Tryphene or John M. If she was the mother of Tryphene, then her name would be Sina Josephine Myers, daughter of James H.Myers and Mahala Reeves who had migrated from Lincoln County, TN to Carrol County,AR prior to Josephene's birth in 1860. However, if she is John M.'s mother, we don't have any knowledge of her background. We have some speculation that John M.'s family might have migrated to AR from MO, but no real information so far. Does anyone recognize this lady?
