Victoire was a daughter of the cabinetmaker Jean-François Oeben and his wife Françoise Marguerite Van Der Cruse and thus a niece-in-law of Martin Carlin and sister of Adélaïde. She married Charles-François Delacroix and bore a son named Ferdinand Victor Eugène Delacroix. He was a painter, and is famous for his paintings “Liberty Leading the People” and “The Massacre at Chios”. Victoire’s other child was Henriette. It is possible that biological father of Eugène was Charles Maurice de Talleyrand-Périgord, the Prime Minister of France.
Jean-François Oeben was a French cabinetmaker who worked extensively for Madame de Pompadour; she was a concubine of King Louis XV of France. Jean-François married Françoise Marguerite Van Der Cruse. Their daughter was Victoire, the mother of the painter Eugène Delacroix.
