This is my great grandfather. He was born to John Whitney and Marah Polly Whitney who were 2nd cousins to each other. He volunteered at age 26 for the Army out of Ellisburgh, Jefferson New York and organized at Elmira, New York for the 24th Regiment Co K under Colonel Timothy Sullivan. They engaged in the Battle of Falmouth, Groveton, Centreville, and Fredericksburg. He was a private when he was finished and quite ill. He is buried at the soldiers home in Grand Ledge Michigan where I visited. He married Anna Amanda Fellows on 9 April 1864 Cleveland, Cuyahoga, Ohio. I have as of yet found her grave or if she was cremated. He had 4 sons, Grant Charles, Guy William, Lee John, and Santee Fellows.

William Alfred Whitney was born on February 16, 1834 in Henderson, Jefferson County, New York United States. He was married to Anna Amanda Fellows, and died at age 65 years old on February 16, 1899 in Grand Rapids, Kent County, MI. William Whitney was buried at Veterans Cemetery in Grand Rapids.
