Amanda Diane Safford Aug 21, 1981 - Jul 23, 1996 Springtown, Texas

SPRINGTOWN - Amanda Diane Safford, 14, a Springtown High School student, died Tuesday July 23, 1996 in a motor vehicle accident in Parker County. Amanda was the 14 year old driver of a two car head on collision which not only took her life but the lives of two sixteen year olds passengers, Sara Harwood and Shayla Covington and severely injured the 4th passenger, Alexia Noah as well as the driver of an oncoming car, Wayne Hamilton. Due to driver inexperience, Amanda over corrected when going onto the shoulder and hit Hamilton head on killing herself and two friends. This was a huge tragedy that should have never happened. Amanda was born Aug. 21, 1981, in Fort Worth. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Springtown and played baseball for the Lions Club and volleyball for Springtown High School. Survivors: Father, Herbert Safford of Springtown; mother, Diane Goains of Reno; brother, Herbert V. Safford; maternal grandmother, Ima Moreland of Springtown; paternal grandmother, Patsy Nix of Briar; grandfather, Herbert V. Safford of Lake Worth; and great-grandmother, Ruth Whatley of Fort Worth.
