Arthur had two marriages.. The first marriage was not acknowledged by the Catholic Church, since Art and Karen's marriage ceremony was not performed in, or officiated by the Catholic Church. The two children produced through his marriage to Karen, namely Sean and Marissa, were both accepted and loved very much by both of their parents families. His second marriage was to Jeannie Lynn Hunter in July 2003, at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Redondo Beach, California. This marriage ended a mere 15 months thereafter, tragically with his death in October 2004. Arthur struggled for many years with alcoholism fueled by a desperate inability to feel "normal and calm". He was as much ashamed of his anxiety as he was of his intoxication. He courageously accepted the responsibility to surrender himself to the Alcoholics Anonymous Program, where, although struggling for fifteen years, he would finally celebrate the hallmark of an entire year sober. Art was known and loved by many friends and peers for his passion and appreciation of everything that made life worthwhile. From education, ethics and the environment, to humor, humility, and the full spectrum of one's humanity. It was not unusual to hear Art begin speaking about his intolerance for an injustice being perpetrated by ignorance, which would eventually end in a moment of sincere appreciation for a chance to catch himself and admit that, he too, was one of the ignorant. He had an uncanny ability to endear himself to the same people he also had an uncanny ability to piss off, and an uncanny ability to bring out the significance of what it means to struggle as a human being.

Arthur Furey of Massapequa, Nassau County, NY was born on December 10, 1919, and died at age 66 years old in January 1986.
