Audrey "Ellen" Casterwiler was the first child of Paul and Audrey Casterwiler. She was diagnosed with severe epilepsy early on and lived for years at the notorious Torrance State mental hospital where she was subjected to mistreatment and rape. She was finally transferred to a low income personal care home where she lived out her life until a brain hemmorhage ended her life. Ellen had a child like innocence and disposition that was endearing, she loved animals, especially reading about spiders. Ellen was a Christian who loved the Lord and because of the difficulty and loneliness of her life, it was a blessing when the Lord took her home. So much happened to this innocent soul, and she rebelled against almost everything, because she had control over nothing in her life. It is possible that her condition was a result of her mothers legs being held closed by nurses to delay her birth because the doctor had not yet arrived.

Audrey Casterwiler of Sharon, Mercer County, PA was born on October 18, 1934, and died at age 53 years old in January 1988.
