3 Blas Davila Biographies

Blas Davilia was one of five undergraduate students who created the "Green Feather Movement" as a protest against McCarthyism and attempted censorship at the University of Indiana (per Wikipedia). The Blas Davila "Doctoral Student Demonstrating Outstanding Service in Clinical Psychology" Award from the School of Psychological Sciences is given annually to the one student who most exemplifies the commitment to public service demonstrated by former School of Psychological Services staff member Blas Davila (per the campus web site). He worked for thirty years as a psychologist at the Central State Hospital in Indiana before it was closed in 1994 (per an AP article on the closing). Per one of his students, who posted this on September 3rd, 2002: "It is not possible to describe how important Blas is to the Graduate Psychology Program at U of I. He was always so friendly and helpful to everyone. He was always there for the students. I was fortunate enough to have him as my practicum supervisor last year and I wouldn't have made it without him. He's just a life saver. The Psych office will never be the same without his cheerful face, his jokes, and his magic tricks." He was married on May 20, 1960 to Thelma Louisa Smith (unmarried name: Thelma Louisa Gradeless Snyder) then, 34, in Cass, Indiana and had one son with her, Carl Laurenca Davila, in 1961. They later divorced. Thelma passed away on Tuesday, December 24, 2013. She worked as a psych RN for the State of Indiana and at private nursing homes in Indianapolis. March 09, 1990, he married Janet E. Bell, then 45 years of age, who still lives in Indianapolis.
Blas Davila of Laredo, Webb County, Texas was born on February 3, 1930, and died at age 81 years old on April 16, 2011.
Blas M Davila of Brownsville, Cameron County, TX was born on June 17, 1915, and died at age 75 years old on January 4, 1991.
