Calvin Carlton Shiflet was born to William C. Shiflet (1859 - 1935) and Emily Estell Rawls (1877 - 1962). He had siblings Gladys Ella, Daniel Dewitt, Ollie Pauline, Willie Mattie, Grafton Garland, and Tommie Nadine Shiflet. He also had half-siblings Claude, Thomas, Mary, Herbert, Clara, Raby, William, and Jessie Shiflet.
Calvin Shiflet married Thelma Elizabeth Turner (1911 - 1973) on April 21, 1926, in Smith Texas, and they had four children: Richard C., Thelma Jean, Barbara Ann, and Freddie Joe Shiflet.
A veteran of World War II, Calvin was survived by his son and two daughters, as well as seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
