Douglas R. Eck, age 62, of Platteville passed away Wednesday, December 22, 2021, at his home. He was born May 3, 1959, in Lancaster, the son of Virgil and Lila (Robinson) Eck. He attended La Follette High School in Madison and later graduated from Platteville High School. He furthered his education at Southwest Wisconsin Technical College with a degree in Engine Machining. On October 3, 1981, he married Cindy L. Place at the First English Lutheran Church in Platteville. She preceded him in death on March 25, 2008. Doug worked with his wife Cindy and operated Baker's Drive In, located in Platteville, in addition, he worked various jobs in the restaurant industry. He later went on to open his own business, the owner of Freeman Transports, retiring in 2021. On April 15, 2009, he married MaBel Gallego at the Abundant Life Christian Center in Dodgeville. Doug loved classic cars and going to auto shows. He was an avid Wisconsin Badger and Green Bay Packer fan. As someone who was very involved with his church, Platteville Christian Center, he always had a heart to serve and would often go the extra mile to help someone in need. He is survived by his wife, MaBel; his two sons, Curt and Josh Eck; his mother, Lila Shaben; siblings, Daniel Eck, Linda (Paul) Hrupka, Laurie (Fernando) Zapata, Steve (Rebecca) Eck, Missy (Dan) Kliebenstein, Troy (Barbara) Eck, Tom Eck; a close nephew, Bryan Eck; his step-mother, Kay Eck; as well as many nieces and nephews. In addition to his father, Virgil Eck, he was also preceded in death by his loving wife Cindy, and step- father, Neal Shaben. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, December 28, 2021, at 11:30 a.m. at Martin Schwartz Funeral Home & Crematory in Lancaster with Pastor Chukie Ifediora officiating. Private family burial will be held at a later date. Family and friends may call on Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of services at the funeral home. In lieu of plants and flowers, a Douglas Eck memorial fund has been established.
